“Projects” also consist largely of the “*.pap” documents that make up your main text. In addition, a project can also have character and research databases as well as other documents you have assigned to the project.
Thus, Papyrus Author helps you keep track of the documents in your project by creating a folder with the name of your main text.
If you have started with only a main text and now would like to add research or a Character Database, you can change it to a project at any time. The main text, the character and research databases as well as any attached document will all be put into a folder with the name of your project. This keeps your documents well organized.
Papyrus Author databases consist of the main “*.pb” file; changes that you just made are stored in the “*.log” file. Together, these two files contain all the information in your database.
Your entry formulas can be found in the “*.pbf” files (Papyrus Base Formula). Other database files include the “*.idx” and the “*.set” files for the settings in the database.
File Selection
“File” menu → “Open…” will open a file selector dialog (“Open Document”), in which you can choose the file you would like to open. This does not necessarily have to be a Papyrus Author Document (“*.PAP”), but can also be a Word, an RTF, an ASCII, or an HTML document.
Your operating system’s file selector dialor allows you to open and save all your Papyrus Author documents, as well as other document types (e.g. documents in RTF, ASCII, DOC, docx or HTML formats you want to import or export).
The Title Line of the file selector dialog will show you which document operation (open, save, …) will be carried out.
The drop-down list “Document Type” allows you to determine which type of documents will be shown in the file selector dialog. Documents are labeled with an Extension, i.e. the last three letters in the document name assigning that document to a specific program.
The Papyrus Author standard extension is “*.PAP”. You can also choose to open or save files in MS Word / Office Format (“*.DOC” / “docx”), PDF, and pap.pdf hybrid files, the e-book format “ePub,” HTML, RTF, or ASCII.
You can choose which types of documents you will be offered in “Import/Export” (“Preferences” → “Import/Export”).
You can make changes to the type of extension for HTML documents under “Preferences” → “Import/Export” → “HTML.”
In the “Open Document” dialog you can use your mouse to select the hard drive partition (C:\, D:\, E:\, …), in which you would like to save your document, as well as for clicking between folders.
